Will he be a notch on Poch?

As I’m sure you’ve all heared/read Mauricio Pochettino has been replaced as Tottenham Head Coach by Jose Mourinho. I’m going to look on whether I think this is a good decision and look ahead to their fixture at the weekend vs West Ham.

Jose Mourinho, Spurs new manager presented with the Tottenham Jersey

I didnt agree greed with the decision to sack the Argentine on Tuesday. I think Pochettino had turned Spurs from a run of the mill Europa League side, to a title contender and Champions League finalist. He has given them some of the best times that can be remembered by a full generation of Tottenham fans. I can understand that many fans of opposition sides will poke fun at him for not having won a trophy at Tottenham, however, his work can not be under estimated. He’s brought forward many young players that have gone on to perform at a very high standard; Kane, Winks, Alli and Foyth and many more at his time at the Saints. His greatest achievement has to be getting to the Champions League final last season, being within 15 minutes of being knocked out 5 times before ultimately finishing runners-up and all this without signing a single player in 18 months. This is at a time when other clubs will spend £200 million in a transfer window. It was a spectacular achievement. I think the employment of Mourinho is a backwards step and will take the club in a such direction. A reliance on negative football and aging players will take away from some of the entertainment that’s Poch brought. This said he is known as one of the world’s best managers and this is for a reason. This is definelty a squad he can challenge for the title with. They will have to wait for next season for that however. One Spurs Fan @gary_bex thinks that this is a job ‘Jose has been craving for years’. Gary thinks that while most managers chop and change quickly, Mourinho’s changes will come over time. He predicted that after these changes happen, Tottenham can win the Premiership and then the Champions League, ending up with Jose Mourinho been written down as the greatest manager of all time.

Jose Training

Jose takes his first training session

Now looking forward to Saturday, when they face West Ham in Mourinho’s first game. I think Spurs predicament is obvious. A new manager, a team lacking confidence and form, whilst having 2 weeks rest. I seriously have no clue how Spurs will perform. West Ham have also been poor this season, losing 4 of their last 6 (2 draws). They have however put up good performances against Watford, and their win against Manchester United. I think the difference between these two teams will be the standard of Spurs best players, as they are superior to those from the Hammers. That said West Ham have game winning players in Felipe Anderson and Haller. I predict a Spurs win in typical Jose fashion, 1-0 Tottenham. @gary_bex prediction for this game is that Spurs will win 3-1 after they change their style of play to a 4-2-3-1 formation. The view of West Ham fan @goodfornothingco is that he thinks that it’ll be a low scoring affair. He thinks 1-1 however if one team is to win it, it will be the visitors. He thinks that both teams are evenly matched and that it could go either way. The winner in his eyes depends on West Ham’s early intensity, if thy get it right they will have a chance, if not it’s curtains.

Only time will tell if Jose can win trophies at Tottenham, and if he can replicate the success he had at Chelsea, Porto or Inter. This all begins with Saturdays London derby. It’s going to be fiery.
